[Bxscience Key Club] Thanksgiving break!!

Hellooo guys! :)

Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Just to update you guys on some things, first, here are the upcoming events:

Sign up ASAP, because we have a limited number of spots for some of these events!!

REMINDERS/UPDATES:

-The winter holidays are coming up, so write some letters to Santa to get your presents early haha :) Macy's is working with Make-A-Wish Foundation and for each of these letters you send in, they will donate $1 to the foundation! These donations will help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Since it's the season of giving, be a big part of granting the wishes of those children. If you're interested in knowing more about this organization or writing your letter(s), click HERE.  We will start collecting these letters at the next meeting!

-Eliminate boxes are due December 12, so fill them up in the last two weeks! Make sure to have your name and homeroom written on the box when you hand them in at the meetings. If your box is full and you want another one, come to the meeting! We'll be happy to give you another box.

-Project Captains! Please remember to update the spreadsheet with the hour/time for each person who attended, and for those who came and did not sign up. Also make notes on extreme weather or interclubbing. There will be a new requirement for Project Captains at future events, besides updating the attendance sheet it'll be required for you to write a quick description of what you and others did at the event on the spreadsheet! It doesn't have to be in full sentences; this description will help us a lot!

Enjoy the rest of your break! See you guys!

[Bxscience Key Club] Running for Office

Hello guys!

So last week, we have just started the nomination process.
You can run for Lieutenant Governor, President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer or Editor/Webmaster.

The Lieutenant Governor represents the division( in our case, Division 11). He/she holds monthly meetings called Divisionals, updating the clubs in that division with more information into the service year. The Lieutenant Governor works on many levels: District, Division and the clubs. They will have to attend monthly board meetings up in Albany to discuss issues with the district board and other LTGs. At Divisionals, those new updates will be transferred and shared with the clubs. With the Divisional board, the LTG will create Divisional events as well, such as fundraisers and they will host the annual Fall Rallys. As for clubs, they visit the club meetings.

The President holds club meetings weekly, and board meetings monthly. Retaining information from the LTG about District projects, and events, the president will share the updates with the members. With the board, they should pave a way to make the club more successful in the next service year. They are also the person who primarily contacts other clubs on different levels whether it be Key Clubs, or Kiwanis Clubs. Every month, they will fill out the LTG Evaluation Form. They work alongside the Projects committee.

The Vice-President is responsible for the committees. There are the projects, scrapbook, fundraising and outreach committees. He/she holds monthly committee meetings with the committee heads in which they update one another on their progress. Besides committees, the Vice-President helps other board members in their responsibilities.

The Secretary updates the points system with events, meetings, fundraisers etc. They also have to fill out a Monthly Report Form (MRF) stating what events they have done in the past month where they give a description of the events as well as inputting service hours. During the meetings, the secretary has to take the notes/minutes. At the beginning of the year, the secretary works with the treasurer on adding official members to the roster.

The Treasurer is responsible for money transactions, as well as the Fundraising Report Forms (FRFs). After a fundraiser or whenever the club makes a donation, the treasurer submits in information with the donation allowing the club to receive credit. They are also in charge of handling the dues in the beginning of the year, working with the secretary on the roster. They work alongside the Fundraising committee.

The Editor/Webmaster is in charge of the website as well as the newsletters. They update the website with pictures, forms, and petitions. Gathering all the articles submitted to the outreach committee, they publish newsletters throughout the service year.

If you are interested in running for LTG, email the current LTG, Lillian Xie at lillianxie.ltg@nydkc.org. We will not be holding nominations for this position in the club meetings.
If you are interested in running for the board positions, to be nominated, the person who nominates you has to be an official Key Clubber. This means that they paid their dues. Once you accept the nomination you will be having an interview with the officer of the position that you are running for, and thus continue to the elections. If there are a lot of candidates for a particular position, the interviews will be used to narrow down the candidates.

Note that even though a description of an officer's responsibilities may seem easy, understand and take into account that these positions and jobs are time consuming and require A LOT of commitment. Do not take this lightly, and know that the elections are not popularity contests. When the elections take place, know that it's best to not vote for a candidate just because they are your friend. Vote for a candidate who you think is suited for the position.

If you have any questions regarding this process, feel free to email me!

See you tomorrow!

[Bxscience Key Club] Another Quick Update!

Hey guys!
The last full week of school is coming to an end when we have Thanksgiving break next week. But just because it's a break doesn't mean we'll stop Key Clubbing!! :) So here are the upcoming events:

 PAL Family Volunteer Day 11/23
Key To Your Future 11/23 (more info below!)
JCC Operation Chicken Soup 12/4 FORM CLOSES TOMORROW!

So for Key To Your Future, you need to send in an application to Steven Chin(steven.g.chin@gmail.comby TOMORROW! For this event, you will be prepared on writing your college essay, resume, and having interviews for future job interests! The application is attached to this email below, so make sure to submit it in by Tuesday and to send me your application as well so I know you are going! Make sure to read the pages through carefully in case you need to leave early, or that you can't make it the answers are given to those questions!

We are currently holding a FOOD Drive! Bring in cans of food for Thanksgiving such as: corn, pumpkin, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, canned fruit, stuffing, olive oil etc. The Food Drive box can be found at the back of the cafeteria near the COSA office. You get 5 points for each can you bring in, so sign in this form so we will know who brought in cans. On your can, remember to write your name and homeroom! Remember, we need these cans in by MONDAY!

We have started our nomination process at today's meeting. If you missed it, here are some of the rules:
-You and the person who nominates you have to be members of Key Club International (meaning you both paid the dues). So if you haven't paid your dues yet and you plan on running, give in your dues ASAP. (THEY ARE DUE TOMORROW!)
-You can either run for Lieutenant Governor, President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer or Editor/Webmaster.
-In order to be officially running for a position, someone has to nominate you and you will have to accept the nomination. After doing so, there has to be at least one person who seconds that nomination. The officers will then have interviews with their respective candidates, and if there are a lot of candidates running for a position, the interviews will be used in determining who goes on to the elections for that position.
-The responsibilities of each position will be reviewed in the next week meeting; I will be sending out an email just to explain more about each officer's role and responsibilities.

Reminders:
We are still collecting dues, so make sure to give them in by NOVEMBER 22ndPlease prepare the dues in a envelope with your name, osis, homeroom and email address on it. If you haven't given your dues in yet, you can give it to any of the officers you see in the hallways! You can just slip the envelopes in my locker as well, which is locker 1553 by RM 222.

Your ELIMINATE boxes are due December 12, so make sure to give it in by then! Make sure that you have your name and homeroom written on the box when you hand it in. If your box is full and you want another one, come to the meeting to get another!

If you're interested in joining one of our four committees, sign up HERE

There has been A LOT of events in the past months, and I'm sure you've had amazing experiences and moments! So share them in the form of an article with the Outreach Committee.

Have a nice weekend!
