[Bxscience Key Club] Congratulations on the new president and vice president!

Good morning!

As you may know, elections were held on Thursday to elect the new President and Vice President. I would like to congratulate Irena Chen (President) and Vincent Colicchio (Vice President) on becoming the new leaders of the club. Their term will not start until April. I would also like to congratulate all of the other candidates who stood up in front of the whole club for four nerve wracking minutes. Thank YOU, members, for being respectful the whole time and for not getting up to leave until the very end.

It is time for hoodies!!! Any ideas? Input them here!

Food Fair was a huge success! Thanks to some great goodies, we were able to raise $180!!!
Another past event was JCC Chicken Soup, where they also made pretty holiday posters.

The next divisional is on Dec 14 at Hunter HIGH SCHOOL. Here is the link to a divisional event; Divisional Gift Exchange. Btw, the deadline to sign up is today!

The same rules apply for the next election for secretary and treasurer : Arrive early (you guys did a great job on that). The doors will be shut at 3:45. Arrive super early to get your t-shirt. If anyone has 9th free on Monday the 10th and would like to pick up his/her shirt then, let Amanda know at tama@bxscience.edu and she will stay in front of the music room with your shirt. Editor elections will be the 20th and we will also be having a little "party" so bring some snacks!

Fare well! Have a lovely weekend,
Tam

[Bxscience Key Club] Elections + Food Fair

Hello all!

The next two meetings will be very special. Here is why: 334 will be opened EARLY during 10th period for you to get your t-shirt (if you paid for one)!!! That is the only time you will be able to get it unless you are willing to wait until next week. Elections will also occur, so come and vote for your next leaders of Bronx Science Key Club :) In order for the process to go smoothly and quickly, ARRIVE EARLY. The doors will be shut at 3:45 and no one will be allowed inside after that. Be punctual. Read up on what a prez/vp should do and if you have any suggestions for the current board, shoot one at us here :)

Before the meeting, however, are a couple of events to chill out and do good with other members.
On Wednesday, 12/5 there will be a Food Fair from 3:30-5 pm. Clubs will have tables to sell any food and the money will go to the club and school. Please make some food/baked goods for Key Club to sell! To see what others are baking and to not clash foods and to sign up to bake something, click here. There is usually a huge rivalry between clubs and having a great table spread of goodies would be fantastic. I will also need some people to help me sell, so please sign up on the sheet as well if youd like to help.

More events:
JCC Operation Chicken Soup 12/5/12 (closed. Project captain: Samra Jasleen) & conflicts with Food Fair
Divisional Gift Exchange (deadline is Saturday) at the Divisional on 12/14 at Hunter HIGH SCHOOL, also a GREAT way to meet new people in the division

[Bxscience Key Club] Bake Sale + Resources

There is going to be a bake sale on Wednesday, during all lunch periods, outside of the cafeteria. Please bring a baked goods dish! 1) The food should be dropped off in front of the S.O. Office (back of the cafeteria) on Wednesday morning before first period 2) The food will not be heated up, so make sure all of the items you bring in can be sold at room temperature. 3) Your food should have your name, homeroom, and club name and must have a list of ingredients (see attached form) so that people who are allergic will know if they can purchase it. All of the clubs are doing this and the money raised is going to benefit the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Also attached are documents about executive board positions and things that were discussed at Fall Rally. (Unfortunately, there is no material on editor/webmaster so you will have to direct your questions to Jessica Chan at chanm9@bxscience.edu). Please read the material if you are interested in running for a position, have questions about a position, or want to learn more about how Key Club is structured. EVERYONE should check out the Governor's project: Keys to Accessibility.

Here is the process of elections:

1. You are nominated by someone in the club, at least two members must second your nomination, and you must accept your nomination. You must be present during the whole process.

2. You will be interviewed by the current executive board. If there is an absurd amount of people running for a position, some of the nominees may be cut.

3. If you continue on to elections, you must make a two minute speech and answer questions during a 2 minute period in front of the club.

4. The club members will elect the future board. (Seniors are not allowed to vote, but are highly encouraged to attend the elections.)

5. Please note that the election process is taken extremely seriously. Any fooling around, lying, cheating, or unprofessional behavior will be reprimanded.

6. Elections will occur for Lieutenant Governor before the executive board. Even if only one person is nominated and running, the person still has to make a speech and go through q&a. Elections will start in December.

Nominations will continue at the meeting on Wednesday. Bring in those cards and MNT boxes! (Also attached).

Any questions? Ask any of the board members! Our names are at the bottom of this email. Our contact info is on our website.

<3 Have a good night!

Amanda

[Bxscience Key Club] There will be a meeting on Wednesday!

Hi buddy!

Unfortunately, and unprecedentedly, both events were canceled this weekend. The soup kitchen events on Thanksgiving is also canceled. :/ However, the highly anticipated Amazing Race is coming up on the 24th! The last day to register a team is the 22nd at noon. Details are in the form. Please sign up for it! It's super duper fun. You can also make Thanksgiving cards (see below)!!!

I know at the last meeting I said there would not be a meeting this week, but I didn't realize that we could have meetings on Wednesday, soo there will be a meeting on Wednesday! After 10th period SGI. Bring in your Eliminate Boxes! (Please try and get ten bucks in them!!!) It's okay if you can't come because of homecoming or because you need to bake pumpkin pie, but you'll be missing out on some visitors! Nominations will continue.

Thanksgiving cards:
Attached is a file for a card template. You can download them, fill them in on paint or crayons/markers/colored pencils, paste each onto construction paper, and make them look pretty. Or you can just print them out, bring them to the meeting, and decorate them at the meeting (but bring glue!) I'm going to deliver them to a senior center on Thanksgiving morning so its crucial that you bring them in at the meeting! Lets get 200+ cards!

A note regarding hours: It is your responsibility to record and keep track of your own hours for college and applications. Some organizations give hour sheets, others don't (but you can ask for them). I suggest you put together your own spreadsheet with the name of the event, description, and number of hours.

See ya WEDNESDAY! Have a lovely 3 day week :D

To celebrate in our club, try out the following!
1. Wear your Key Club attire! This includes, your volunteering shirts, hoodies, bracelets, and anything with keys on it!
2. Bring a friend to a meeting on Thursday! IN THE MUSIC ROOM-334
3. Make a poster about your favorite part of Key Club or a poster that explains Key Club in your own words. Ask Mr. Eng if you can put it up in the hallway!
4. Bring in some canned food and or a jacket that you would like to donate to help out our home, school, and community in the aftermaths of Hurricane Sandy! (You will receive points! - There will be a form on the website very soon!) My friend is going to pick up the jackets next Friday, so you have time to ask your mom if you can donate a horrendous lime or lemon colored jacket.
5. Bring in $5 to help with the hurricane relief! The SO and LOP have decided that the club that raises the most money will be given a pizza party! We have a huge reputation to keep up and I KNOW we can raise the most money. If you cannot bring in $5, bring in $1 or $2 or anything!!! Representing our club and showing that our club is absolutely amazing and getting a pizza party would be the best celebration for our club! Can you imagine more than 20 pies of pizza for our meeting? that would be outrageous :D There will be an envelope going around for you to put money in during the meeting.
6. Join a committee! The forms to sign up will be put up and sent out on Thursday.
7. Make a video about what your favorite part of Key Club is!
8. Write an article! Send it to liangc4@bxscience.edu or kyuulynn@gmail.com
9. Send your kc pictures to bxkcscrapbook@gmail.com
10. Add board members on Facebook and join the Bronx Science Key Club Facebook Group

Before the meeting, you should...
1. Try to get $10 in your UNICEF- The Eliminate Project Box (Collection will start on Nov 15)
2. Collect your t-shirt money. $20 customized, $17 uncustomized. I know some people gave 16/19 because thats what it said on the custom ink link. I'm sorry I made a terrible mistake! If there is not enough money to cover the shirts, I will have to ask those people to give in another dollar :/)
3. Pick out any of your unwanted trick-or-treat candy and bring it to the meeting!
4. Sign up for the FALL RALLY on Nov 10, this Saturday!!!!!!

Sorry for the long email. By the time I say all this stuff on Thursday, it'll be too late!!

[Bxscience Key Club] #elimin8 #candy8) #hall0w33n

Hello!

The final days are approaching until Halloween which means thinking of and finalizing our costume and festivities! Since there won't be a meeting before Halloween, this email is going to be a bit long and dedicated to the Eliminate Project.

Of course I'm super excited for the kit kats and twix but I'm more excited about spreading The Eliminate Project message to adults, friends and teachers. Please put all of your passion into raising at least $10 per box but anything is something!. I want us to beat New Jersey and Florida and be the biggest donor to the project.

OR you can just check out the eliminate project website for yourself! The boxes will be due after Halloween and yes, you can still hand in your dues (just do it RIGHT AWAY)

I know it will be a struggle to knock on doors and not only ask for candy but for a donation. Last year, I went to around 10 houses and I got donations from every single one of them. I raised over $10 in less than an hour. I didn't wear a costume but I explained what the project was. I looked for decorated houses because I knew the homeowners would be in a jolly spirit and would be more willing to donate. Here was my pitch line: Hi! Would you like to help eliminate tetanus in foreign countries? It is a horrible but highly curable disease. I then stuck out my box with a big smile and a watery eyes and the donor looked at it and determined its legitimacy, and fetched his/her wallet. Then I thanked the person a gazillion times and smiled a super huge smile like :D and grabbed candy if he/she was still offering (though I don't think I got a lot of candy), tried not to trip down the stairs, and went on to another house. **Make sure you know some facts! Like a baby dies every 9 minutes from mnt. $1.80 can save a mother and her future children.

The next meeting will be in the Auditorium. Please bring any candy that you do not wish to eat. We are going to participate in a Halloween Candy Buy Back program in which uneaten candy is given to a dentist who sends the candy to Operation Gratitude or other operations for soldiers overseas to enjoy! :)

Best of luck <3 Thank you for helping eliminate mnt. Even if you dont get any donations, you will do a great job by spreading the message. Stay safe on Sunday and Monday!

[Bxscience Key Club] Divisional, Meeting, Events

Good morning!

The meeting on Thursday will most likely be in the auditorium. There is parent teacher conference on Thursday so there might be a possibility that we will get kicked out of the auditorium. If that happens, please go to room 334!

There is a divisional at High School for Math, Science, and Engineering (240 CONVENT AVE, NEW YORK, NY 10031) on Wednesday from 5:30-7:30. We will go together as a group. Please meet at the flagpole at 4:30 PM. We will be taking the D there. Check out this map

Please sign up well before the date of the event, because the list of people attending needs to be sent in.

If you took pictures at the Breast Cancer Walk, please send your good ones to bxkcscrapbook@gmail.com. Contact that email address for further questions. If you would like to write an article about the walk or your The Eliminate Project box, please send it to linq2@bxscience.edu or liangc4@bxscience.edu.

[Bxscience Key Club] Updates for the week!

Hiya!

Happy fall weather :) The falling of leaves marks the start of our UNICEF Trick-Or-Treat for The Eliminate Project, the biggest one ever. Last year we raised $6000. This year, I want to beat that and make this the biggest project ever. I want to raise $8000 to help any relatives in foreign countries and to ease the pain for loved ones. Please start asking for donations from anyone! I find it easiest when friends are with you. If you did not get your box yet, you will receive it at the next meeting. Decorate your boxes! They're supposed to look like characters and if yours is really well designed, you can enter this contest! If you win, our club will be so proud of you :')

Please bring in your dues $13 (you get extra points if you hand them in by the 11th!!!) and your t-shirt money if you ordered one $17. The shirts will not be ordered until all the money is given in.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday, Oct 11 in 334 immediately after 10th pd.

There is a JDRF walk on Sunday which you should definitely go to!!!

Have a lovely Columbus Day,
Amanda Tam <3
