[Bxscience Key Club] FOOD FAIR!

Hey guys!! :)

So FOOD FAIR is THIS THURSDAY from 3:45-5pm. If you don't know what food fair is, over 40 clubs will be stationed in the cafeteria selling the food items that their members have made!

Sweets are really popular, so try making more savory food! If you are making food, I have attached a form below that you MUST fill out and ATTACH to your food when you give it in at Mr. Eng's office/COSA office at the back of the cafeteria Thursday morning! Make sure you do this so we won't lose the great amount of work you put into this!

Since Food Fair contradicts with the time where we usually have our meetings, we will NOT be having a meeting this week! But that doesn't mean that you don't shouldn't check our table our in the cafeteria Thursday!

See you little beavers!

If you didn't come, The Supply is an organization that strives to educate young kids who live in slums to create cities of tomorrow by creating secondary schools that center on service learning. An interesting part about this organization is that there is a program that allows high school kids to travel with the organization to Kenya (for example) to interact and teach this kids! If you're interested in learning more about this organization, click HERE. :)

[Bxscience Key Club] Running for Office

Hello guys!

So last week, we have just started the nomination process.
You can run for Lieutenant Governor, President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer or Editor/Webmaster.

The Lieutenant Governor represents the division( in our case, Division 11). He/she holds monthly meetings called Divisionals, updating the clubs in that division with more information into the service year. The Lieutenant Governor works on many levels: District, Division and the clubs. They will have to attend monthly board meetings up in Albany to discuss issues with the district board and other LTGs. At Divisionals, those new updates will be transferred and shared with the clubs. With the Divisional board, the LTG will create Divisional events as well, such as fundraisers and they will host the annual Fall Rallys. As for clubs, they visit the club meetings.

The President holds club meetings weekly, and board meetings monthly. Retaining information from the LTG about District projects, and events, the president will share the updates with the members. With the board, they should pave a way to make the club more successful in the next service year. They are also the person who primarily contacts other clubs on different levels whether it be Key Clubs, or Kiwanis Clubs. Every month, they will fill out the LTG Evaluation Form. They work alongside the Projects committee.

The Vice-President is responsible for the committees. There are the projects, scrapbook, fundraising and outreach committees. He/she holds monthly committee meetings with the committee heads in which they update one another on their progress. Besides committees, the Vice-President helps other board members in their responsibilities.

The Secretary updates the points system with events, meetings, fundraisers etc. They also have to fill out a Monthly Report Form (MRF) stating what events they have done in the past month where they give a description of the events as well as inputting service hours. During the meetings, the secretary has to take the notes/minutes. At the beginning of the year, the secretary works with the treasurer on adding official members to the roster.

The Treasurer is responsible for money transactions, as well as the Fundraising Report Forms (FRFs). After a fundraiser or whenever the club makes a donation, the treasurer submits in information with the donation allowing the club to receive credit. They are also in charge of handling the dues in the beginning of the year, working with the secretary on the roster. They work alongside the Fundraising committee.

The Editor/Webmaster is in charge of the website as well as the newsletters. They update the website with pictures, forms, and petitions. Gathering all the articles submitted to the outreach committee, they publish newsletters throughout the service year.

If you are interested in running for LTG, email the current LTG, Lillian Xie at lillianxie.ltg@nydkc.org. We will not be holding nominations for this position in the club meetings.
If you are interested in running for the board positions, to be nominated, the person who nominates you has to be an official Key Clubber. This means that they paid their dues. Once you accept the nomination you will be having an interview with the officer of the position that you are running for, and thus continue to the elections. If there are a lot of candidates for a particular position, the interviews will be used to narrow down the candidates.

Note that even though a description of an officer's responsibilities may seem easy, understand and take into account that these positions and jobs are time consuming and require A LOT of commitment. Do not take this lightly, and know that the elections are not popularity contests. When the elections take place, know that it's best to not vote for a candidate just because they are your friend. Vote for a candidate who you think is suited for the position.

If you have any questions regarding this process, feel free to email me!

See you tomorrow!

Rock the NYC Kidney Walk 11/10
Indian Classical Arts Festival 11/23

THIS FRIDAY is Fall Rally! This year things will be a little different. The information at the event will be available in a service fair-like environment, so you can easily socialize with Key Clubbers from Division 11, 8, and 8-A. It's going to be at Bayside High School from 10AM to 3PM, casual wear, preferable Key Club clothes! (aka a volunteer shirt, Key Club shirt or hoodie)
The admission is $7.

We ALSO have our NOVEMBER DIVISIONAL 11/18 at Stuyvesant High School! If you plan on going, you have to give in a permission slip(attached to this email) ASAP. If you are going to Fall Rally, you can give it in then, but if you aren't, give it to me or any of the board members in the hallways tomorrow during school or slip it in my locker (1553 near Rm 222). Sorry for such a late notice.

Reminders:
We are still collecting dues, so make sure to give them in by NOVEMBER 22ndPlease prepare the dues in a envelope with your name, osis, homeroom and email address on it.

We are also still accepting Hoodies designs, and the form will be closing in about 2 weeks! So don't wait until the last minute, and submit your design in HERE!

Our Outreach Committee has made a video promoting the Eliminate Project, if you want to check it out, here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQ1CgLFHvLY&feature=youtu.be

[Bxscience Key Club] Quick November Update!

Hello guys!

It was nice having a meeting again after such a long time, but I hope in the future, things will run more smoothly in terms of respect. It's rude for the board to be talking over others when the meetings take place, and I'm sure that you would want some respect as well. I hope that in the future meetings no one will be talking over another, but as for those who were respectful, thank you.

Besides that, if you didn't go to the meetings, here are the upcoming events:

Rock the NYC Kidney Walk 11/10 FORM CLOSES THIS FRIDAY
Indian Classical Arts Festival 11/23

FALL RALLY is going to be on November 9th!! If you don't know what Fally Rally is, it's an annual event that we hold as Division 11, Division 8, and Division 8-A. Key Clubs from those divisions meet up and hold workshops providing information on running for higher office, balancing Key Club and school as well as helping you in becoming a leader! So if you're interested in being more involved with Key Club, come to this event! You will have to dress formally. As of now, Fall Rally will be held at Bayside High School. More information will be provided soon!

Reminders:
We are still collecting dues, so make sure to give them in by NOVEMBER 22nd. Please prepare the dues in a envelope with your name, osis, homeroom and email address on it.

We are also still accepting Hoodies designs, and the form will be closing in about 2 weeks! So don't wait until the last minute, and submit your design in HERE!

If you're interested in joining one of our four committees, sign up HERE

There has been A LOT of events in the past months, and I'm sure you've had amazing experiences and moments! So share them in the form of an article with the Outreach Committee.

See you guys next week! Have a lovely Halloween! We will be resuming to our original meeting time.

[Bxscience Key Club] It's Almost November!! :)

Hi guys!

First of all, unfortunately since there's Parent Teacher Conference tomorrow we will not be having a meeting this week. Since next Thursday is Halloween, we will most likely have a rapid dismissal so for next week, we will be having our meeting early in the week. I will send an email out in a few days confirming that! Besides that, even though we haven't met for two weeks, we still have events! If you haven't signed up yet, here they are:

Updates and Reminders:
-Thank you joining us at the Breast Cancer Walk Sunday! Thanks to your contribution, we have donated $753.61!! :) Know that this money is for funding research to help fight women against breast cancer so thank you for helping us in making a difference.

-I've mentioned this before in the past meetings; there is a DIVISIONAL TOMORROW! If you don't know what a divisional is, it's a monthly meeting that our division (Division 11) holds, to update others on what we've been doing as well as learning new divisional projects and events! Our division has Key Clubs from Stuyvesant, Lehman College, DeWitt Clinton, LaGuardia, Hunter, HSMSE and Nest+m. It's going to start at 5:30pm at Hunter College High School.

We will be meeting as a group at the flagpole(main entrance) at 4:00 and we will leave at 4:15 for the divisional. If you have plans beforehand, feel free to go ahead! You can take the 4 to 125st and transfer to the 6, getting off at 96st.

-If you haven't heard of this yet, our division is holding a Sports Tournament! So if you're into basketball, handball or volleyball sign up and go against other key club members. It's going to be this Sunday, you can sign up here!

-Since we won't be having a meeting this week, the deadline for dues is NOVEMBER 22nd. So if you plan on submitting dues, and you haven't yet, give them in soon!

-Besides paying dues, want to be more involved in the workings of Key Club? Sign up to join our committees

-Just to let you guys understand more of what you have to do as a Project Captain, I've attached a document describing the role!

-There has been plenty of events in the past months, so tell us how they went for you! Submit an article for our Newsletter to our Outreach heads (quindalj@bxscience.edu, linq2@bxscience.edu)!

Thanks for bearing with me and reading this longg email! See you guys soon!

[Bxscience Key Club] Quick Update!

Hello guys!

I hope you enjoyed the 3-day weekend, feeling fully refreshed! Just a quick note, since the school is holding an Open House this Thursday, after school activities are cancelled! That means that THERE IS NO MEETING THIS WEEK!

If you didn't sign up for the upcoming events, here they are:

REMINDERS:
We are now accepting HOODIE DESIGNS! So start using the artistic part of your brain and help us in contributing a design for us to choose! Submit your design here!!

There has been a lot of events lately, and to show the new members and your friends what they are about, submit an article or two to the Outreach Committee! Your article will be found in our upcoming newsletter!

Project Eliminate: When you pay your dues to Lisa, you will receive a small box for the Project Eliminate! This project is a district project which we focus on every year during this time. Project Eliminate strives to eliminate diseases through donations, and for the past few years it has been Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus. Here is a video to explain more about this disease:

There will be a Divisional on the 24th!! This is where all the Key Clubs in our Division (Division 11) meet up to update one another on our current projects, and upcoming events. Our Lieutenant Governor Lillian Xie will be running this meeting! It'll take place around 5:30-7pm but the location hasn't been announced yet but once I know, I'll tell you guys!!

Have a nice week! :)
