[Bxscience Key Club] Fwd: ORDER NOW: Hoodie

Hey Guys,

About 20 people have already signed up for Hoodies but only ONE person has actually customized it. Your hoodie has a spot on the back where you can write anything. For example, I could write "Michelle Soto" or "Michelle" or "Soto" or "Treasurer Soto." Does no one want to customize their hoodie this year or are you just all forgetting to put it into the "Comment" section? If you already signed up for a hoodie and forgot to put your name in the comment section, please email me what you would like to customize your hoodie with so I can fix that. If you have not filled out the form but will be doing so soon, please put your name directly into the comments section.

Note: If we do not customize the hoodies as a group, they will actually be cheaper so you may not one to customize it...Is that the case?

[Bxscience Key Club] Re: Project Cicero - Donate Books!

Hi everyone,

I've been getting questions on the genres of books that are acceptable for donation. Here are the guidelines"

Please DO NOT give us books with
- Broken bindings
- Torn/stained covers
- missing pages
- writing/coloring
- out of date non-fiction/reference books
- library discards

Project Cicero does not accept textbooks or adult books.

What Kinds of Books?
Yes: New and gently used hardcover and paperback books for children and young adults, including picture, early readers, reference, fiction, test prep, nonfiction and biographies.
No: Textbooks, adult books, library discards, or out of date non-fiction/reference books.

They also have a wish list (http://projectcicero.org/page/Wish%20List) so you can check that out to get some ideas. I'm assuming most of you will have books from when you were younger. Remember what books were found in the libraries of your elementary and middle schools. They can be books for really young children. When I volunteered last year, I remember that we had a whole section of the room for early readers that had those "cardboard" pages.

If you have any questions on book donation, don't hesitate to email me.

Thanks for your help!
Victoria

1. Donate books!

Bring books to Mr. McConnell in room 208. This was organized by a fellow Bronx Science student, Jimmy Peraffan!

[Bxscience Key Club] Hoodie Design Results & Divisional Hoodie Contest

Hello everyone,

Thank you for participating in our club hoodie design contest! I have the results...

(Drum roll.....)

DESIGN A! You can check out Design A here (http://bxscikeyclub.weebly.com/gallery.html). We still haven't had a chance to update the website but Design A will be our club hoodie! We'll be sending out a form to order the hoodie so keep a look out. Remember, the more people who order, the less the hoodie will cost!

- Victoria

-----
Below is a message from Lieutenant Governor Emma on the Divisional Hoodie Design Contest!:
Hi Division 11 Key Clubbers! To complement our mascot choice and end the service year on a unified note, we will be ordering Division 11 sweatshirts/hoodies. Thus, I invite you all to participate in our design contest! The final submission date for all designs is Sunday, March 11 to allow ample for collecting orders. The rules for the design are listed below:

1) Design the sweatshirt on customink.com and send me (emmacheng.ltg@nydkc.org) the link once you're done.
2) If you designing only for the front of the hoodie, you may use up to 3 colors.
If you are designing both the front and back of the hoodie, you may use up to 2 colors.
3) You don't have to leave space for customizing. WE WILL NOT BE CUSTOMIZING THE SWEATSHIRT to simplify the ordering process (no personalizing names, etc.)
4) The design must incorporate the words "Division 11" and "Key Club." Any other slogans, phrases, etc. are optional.
5) It is highly recommended that you include the Division Mascot (the panda) OR the District Mascot (the beaver) on the design, but this is optional.

Please note that sweatshirts will likely cost around $30-35 each. We will have a vote on the sweatshirt designs and ordering will most likely go until LTC. Thanks everyone and please feel free to ask me if you have any questions or concerns (e.g. about the rules, deadline, etc.).

Hi Division 11 Editors and Officers! Although District Governor Domenick STILL has not sent out newsletter assignments, I am taking the initiative and starting a January/February Divisional Newsletter. Thus, it is time for all club editors (and officers) to help me with the new issue! To ensure that the issue includes all the recent news and updates of our Division, I will need every club to submit articles. As usual, it is the responsibility of the Club Editors to write at least one article or assign an article to a fellow board member or dedicated club member to write

For possible topics, I suggest that the articles should either be a service spotlight (talk about a project or fundraiser that your club performed during the past few months, such as a walk) or a member spotlight (interview or write a profile of a Key Club member who did something interesting and service-related during October or November). Remember, articles are only 400 words or less. The submission deadline will be 11:59pm on Saturday, February 25. You will have two full days of break), so do not be lateIf you need an extension, please tell me at least a day beforehand and I will be flexible. Thanks for all of your cooperation and I look forward to reading your articles.

P.S. Multiple articles from clubs are welcome and any articles submitted for this issue can be counted towards the Distinguished Key Clubber Award!

Hope this change doesn't prevent you from coming! Remember, the money will be donated to PLAYING FOR CHANGE, a non-profit organization bringing musical education around the world.

See you tomorrow!

February Divisional (2/17)
The February Divisional is going to be held at Bronx Science. It should be convenient because we won't have to take the subway, if we've been at school all day anyways. We will be meeting in the teacher's cafeteria from 5pm-7pm. At this divisional Pencils of Promise creator, Adam Braun, and his home girls will be coming to speak. Remember the guys who came to that one meeting in the auditorium and spoke about building schools in 3rd world countries? Same people :D~ STAY FOR THE DIVISIONAL!!! It will fill a requirement for your Distinguished Key Clubber Award and at this divisional Herman will be talking about upcoming Divisional fundraisers.

Bronx Science Key Club Pottery Fundraiser (2/24-25)
We will be going to Color Me Mine pottery store to make whatever kind of stuff's! They will do the kilning so no, we don't get to touch the near one thousand degree Fahrenheit fire. No.
They have a large assortment of items to choose from and all of them great gifts for people of all ages or great household items!  The store is located on 92 Reade Street in Tribeca, Manhattan. The easiest way to get to the store would be to take the 1,2, or 3 train to Chambers Street.

Because they have a limited amount of space we will be splitting in to two groups. One group going on each of those days.

[Bxscience Key Club] Winter Jam 2/4

Hello Key Clubbers,

Unfortunately Winter Jam 2/4 this year has been canceled if you had not gotten the email. The weather is too warm to maintain snow at the many scheduled activities at Winter Jam.
But there will be many more events coming up. Have a great weekend.

[Bxscience Key Club] Announcements: Event THIS Saturday+Cards for Sick Children+Bronx Science Teacher Talent Show

Hi Key Clubbers!!

The following email contains some important announcements. Please read through quickly. Thanks!

Summary
1) Event this Saturday--Volunteers Needed!!
2) Cards for Sick Children, Continuous Project
3) Bronx Science Teacher Talent Show, February 10

1) This Saturday, February 4, the Fighting Blindness Foundation will be holding a speaker series.
They are looking for 2-4 volunteers who can help check people in and handout packets, as well as guide people to the refreshment room.
This event will start @ 9:15 am and will take place at the Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute at Columbia University Medical Center
Please email me back by TONIGHT if you are interested in this event as this organization desperately needs volunteers!!

2) As I mentioned in the meeting, I want to regularly start writing letters to kids who are severely or terminally ill. Although these letters or cards would only take a small amount of your time to make, they mean a lot to these kids and can put a smile on their faces. Cards should preferably be colorful and short since these kids are young. Here is a website with instructions on what you have to do to write these kids cards. Once you make a card, you can give it to one of the officers in a meeting, we will give you points, and mail your card out. I hope you all take the time to do this. The smallest things can mean the world to a kid. Please do your part in helping make these kids' worlds the best they can be before their death, or to help them recover.

3) February 10, Bronx Science will be holding a Teacher Talent Show from 3:00-4:30 pm. The ticket price has not yet been finalized but will probably be about $2. The money that is raised at this event will be donated to Albert Einstein Hospital. Therefore, if you attend this event, you WILL get points! More details will be coming up about this. I went last year and I STRONGLY recommend you go. It's an enjoyable event for everybody! :)

Have a GREAT weekend!

-Michelle

Hello everyone,

Hope you had a successful midyear week as we move on into the second term and congratz to all the second term seniors!

Other than being closer to summer, we all have the Leadership Training Conference to look forward to. For those who are no familiar with LTC, it is a convention held from Fri. March 30 - Sun. April 1 in a Holiday Inn in Albany, NY. Key Clubbers from the New York District convene for a weekend full of workshops, speakers, voting for district officers, and getting to know each other. It's a great way to realize that Key Club is bigger than just our own Bronx Science, or even Division 11. I was stunned by how large Key Club was when I first attended and just imagine that there are other district conventions happening so there are even more Key Clubbers than the ones you see. We will be leaving together from school on a bus at approximately 12:30 pm because school ends early because of Parent-Teacher Conferences.

Here's the tentative schedule (http://conference.nydkc.org/schedule.html, yes we have dances!) and entertainment (http://conference.nydkc.org/speakers.html). Take a look at these pages. As for the workshops, they can range from ones covering club officer position (if you're interested in a specific position, this is your chance to take a peek at what it is and prepare for elections! - I did that my sophomore year ;D) to finding events for Key Club and to even improvisation! There's a wide range that will suit anyone's interests. You are also included in the process of voting for next year's district officer.

Now that you know what LTC is, how do you attend?
1. Decide whether you want to attend. We have 25 spots available but 8 current and new officers must attend so only 17 spots remain. Make sure you REALLY want to go. This is not a place to have fun. It is a place to learn more about Key Club.
2. Bring a check for $165 addressed to the Riverdale Kiwanis Foundation. Our sponsoring club has been so kind to cover $85 of the original $250 fee for every Key Clubber attending.
3. Place that check in an envelope labeled with: full name, osis, official class, email, and phone number in case we need to contact you for any reason. Do not lick and seal the envelope. Just use tape so we can open it and check if your check is correct and then close it again.
4. You must meet the cutoff of 200 points or 175 if you're a freshman. Make sure you check your points. If we find out that you do not meet the requirement, you will not be attending. If you attended a recent event and it has not been inputted, email me or Secretary Jessica Chan (chanm9@bxscience.edu) to confirm if those points would put you over the cutoff. This points requirement is to ensure members who regulary attend Key Club activities represent us at LTC.
5. Bring the check in the envelope to us this THURSDAY. In addition to the points cutoff, a condition for who will attend will be based on FIRST COME FIRST SERVE!
My goal is to have all who want to attend to bring the check in on Thursday. After we have the people who are attending, we will have a short meeting afterwards to discuss LTC procedures.
I want to submit our registration ASAP so that we can get the better rooms and dining seats. Remember, first come first serve also apply to that so please bring in your checks this THURSDAY.

Chaperone
We also need one more adult chaperone for LTC. If you are planning to attend, ask your parents or an adult relative if they would be interested. This is a chance for them to see what Key Club is like and to understand why you have dedicated so much of your time to it. Here's a handout explaining the responsibilities of a chaperone (http://conference.nydkc.org/register.html - click on advisor checklist: requirements). The Riverdale Kiwanis Club will pay the entire cost of a chaperone coming along so there is no cost for them. If you have someone who is interested, please indicate that on the envelope you are turning in with the check.

Hoodie Design
When we go to LTC, we always arrive with our latest hoodies. WE NEED HOODIE DESIGN! Please use Custom Ink (http://www.customink.com/) to design an attractive hoodie. We will be voting on the best design. Designs are due on Friday, February 10. Many of you have been asking about hoodies and this is your chance to have a say in what we are wearing. :) Email me the design.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me at victoria.li415@gmail.com

Best and remember to bring in those checks on Thursday if you plan on attending!
Victoria

2. In previous years, they have given a 25% coupon for each jean you donated. Hold onto the coupon(s) as a record.
3. Bring your coupon(s) to a meeting to show us so we can keep a record of who donated how many jeans. If they only give you one, please be honest and tell us the number of jeans you donated.
4. Use the coupon. :)

Share Teens for Jeans with friends who are not even in Key Club. This is a great way to make use of your old jeans instead of tossing them in the trash.

Expect to see me at an Aeropostale! I have 2 jeans to donate :)
