[Bxscience Key Club] [Bx Sci Key Club] Registering for Leadership Training Conference

Hello everyone,

Hope you had a successful midyear week as we move on into the second term and congratz to all the second term seniors!

Other than being closer to summer, we all have the Leadership Training Conference to look forward to. For those who are no familiar with LTC, it is a convention held from Fri. March 30 - Sun. April 1 in a Holiday Inn in Albany, NY. Key Clubbers from the New York District convene for a weekend full of workshops, speakers, voting for district officers, and getting to know each other. It's a great way to realize that Key Club is bigger than just our own Bronx Science, or even Division 11. I was stunned by how large Key Club was when I first attended and just imagine that there are other district conventions happening so there are even more Key Clubbers than the ones you see. We will be leaving together from school on a bus at approximately 12:30 pm because school ends early because of Parent-Teacher Conferences.

Here's the tentative schedule (http://conference.nydkc.org/schedule.html, yes we have dances!) and entertainment (http://conference.nydkc.org/speakers.html). Take a look at these pages. As for the workshops, they can range from ones covering club officer position (if you're interested in a specific position, this is your chance to take a peek at what it is and prepare for elections! - I did that my sophomore year ;D) to finding events for Key Club and to even improvisation! There's a wide range that will suit anyone's interests. You are also included in the process of voting for next year's district officer.

Now that you know what LTC is, how do you attend?
1. Decide whether you want to attend. We have 25 spots available but 8 current and new officers must attend so only 17 spots remain. Make sure you REALLY want to go. This is not a place to have fun. It is a place to learn more about Key Club.
2. Bring a check for $165 addressed to the Riverdale Kiwanis Foundation. Our sponsoring club has been so kind to cover $85 of the original $250 fee for every Key Clubber attending.
3. Place that check in an envelope labeled with: full name, osis, official class, email, and phone number in case we need to contact you for any reason. Do not lick and seal the envelope. Just use tape so we can open it and check if your check is correct and then close it again.
4. You must meet the cutoff of 200 points or 175 if you're a freshman. Make sure you check your points. If we find out that you do not meet the requirement, you will not be attending. If you attended a recent event and it has not been inputted, email me or Secretary Jessica Chan (chanm9@bxscience.edu) to confirm if those points would put you over the cutoff. This points requirement is to ensure members who regulary attend Key Club activities represent us at LTC.
5. Bring the check in the envelope to us this THURSDAY. In addition to the points cutoff, a condition for who will attend will be based on FIRST COME FIRST SERVE!
My goal is to have all who want to attend to bring the check in on Thursday. After we have the people who are attending, we will have a short meeting afterwards to discuss LTC procedures.
I want to submit our registration ASAP so that we can get the better rooms and dining seats. Remember, first come first serve also apply to that so please bring in your checks this THURSDAY.

Chaperone
We also need one more adult chaperone for LTC. If you are planning to attend, ask your parents or an adult relative if they would be interested. This is a chance for them to see what Key Club is like and to understand why you have dedicated so much of your time to it. Here's a handout explaining the responsibilities of a chaperone (http://conference.nydkc.org/register.html - click on advisor checklist: requirements). The Riverdale Kiwanis Club will pay the entire cost of a chaperone coming along so there is no cost for them. If you have someone who is interested, please indicate that on the envelope you are turning in with the check.

Hoodie Design
When we go to LTC, we always arrive with our latest hoodies. WE NEED HOODIE DESIGN! Please use Custom Ink (http://www.customink.com/) to design an attractive hoodie. We will be voting on the best design. Designs are due on Friday, February 10. Many of you have been asking about hoodies and this is your chance to have a say in what we are wearing. :) Email me the design.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me at victoria.li415@gmail.com

Best and remember to bring in those checks on Thursday if you plan on attending!
