[Bxscience Key Club] Key Club Updates!

Hi everyone!

Here is an update on what is happening with Key Club :) Please read through all of this! There are more opportunities for you to be a leader in Key Club and it is included in this email. There are also petitions with you can sign that are also in this email.

We are still collecting money for UNICEF at the next meeting because the time of collection has been extended. After the collection in the next meeting, we plan to send the total donations to Project ELIMINATE! So bring in your boxes next week so that your donations can be included. We've reached $3,000, lets donate even more! Remember, $1.80 can save a mother and her future children's lives.

December 2011 Newsletter!

Editor Naurin Shaki has just released our first Bronx Science Key Club Newsletter of the year. You can read it by clicking here. Remember, you can contribute to future newsletters by sending in articles and pictures! Email her at naurin.shaki@yahoo.com if you are interested or have any questions.

WE NEED HOODIE DESIGNS!!!!!
I know that many of you are asking about hoodies... so the time has come for us to start planning the design of the hoodies. Make a design for the Key Club hoodie. It should have these details in there: 1. Bronx Science Key Club 2. 2011-2012 3. Caring--Our Way of Life. You can make the designs on Custom Ink and send it to me. In the end, we will compile all the designs and the club will vote on it. I'm excited to see some awesome designs! Key Club Pride!

Be a Leader in Key Club!:
Running for Key Club Officer Position

We are having nominations until the end of December. Remember that anyone can run for an officer position but please be sure that you are aware of the responsibilities before being nominated. You can learn about each of the officer positions by clicking here (Editor has both the jobs of Webmaster and Editor) or emailing the current officers (contact information is on the Contacts of the Bronx Science Key Club website). Elections will be held in January and the format is a 2 minute speech followed by 2 minutes of Questions & Answers.
Running for Division 11 Lieutenant Governor
If you are thinking about running for LtG, please e-mail both Emma and Charlotte (
emmacheng.ltg@nydkc.org and charlotte.c.owens@gmail.com) as soon as possible. We will send you some detailed materials to review and to discuss with your parents. After you have reviewed the materials, you will then need to tell us whether you want to be on the final list of candidates for the Election. If you have any questions, you can email Emma. Remember, anyone can run for LtG but please be sure that you are capable of taking on this role.
Be part of the Leadership Training Conference Committee!
By being part of the LTC Committee, you can help plan LTC this year. I encourage everyone to consider this opportunity, since it's a great chance to build your leadership skills and learn more about Key Club from behind the scenes. If you are selected for a position, you will attend the Winter Board meeting (Feb. 4-5), go to the hotel for LTC one day earlier and be able to attend LTC for free! I have attached the application and it's due January 6. P.S. If you are good at Photoshop or layout, PLEASE apply for program chair! We need someone to help us make an awesome comic-themed program this year. :D

Upcoming Events:

Pencils of Promise Volunteer Night - Tues. Dec. 13 (registration closed)
The limit on the number of volunteers is 5. If Herman has not emailed you about attending, then you will not be able to attend due to the space limit. There is another volunteer night in January so prepare for that one! :D If you want to get more involved with PoP, you can check them out at www.pencilsofpromise.org under the Take Action tab.
Wrap It Up - Thur. Dec. 15 (registration closed)
Remember that you can only attend if you registered on JCC's website online. If you did not but planned on showing up anyways, it is possible that you will not be allowed to stay because there will be no space due to the number of people who have already registered. If you did not get a chance to register, remember that we attend Wrap It Up every year!
Santa's Helper - Mon. Dec. 19
Families, Fathers & Children provides supportive and direct services to children of inmates and their families. We assist in re-establishing and strengthening the father-child relationship. Help with our Christmas Party! Greet people, sign them in, show the kids what activities we have for them, help with Musical Chairs, serve food, set up, clean up, and have a wonderful time! It also encouraged that your bring food to contribute to the party. Click here to sign up! There are limited spaces so sign up asap if you want to volunteer.
Food Fair - Wed. Dec. 22
Fill out this form (click here) to let us know what you plan to bring to the Food Fair. Fill it out if you are positive that you will be able to bring the food in. Help raise money for Key Club!

Advocacy:
There is an easier way to fill out petitions now! The form contains the online links to the petitions. It is also a more organized way to keep a record of who signed the petition, when. Please keep the actual petition that is sent as a file as proof for the DKC award. If you lose it or don't save it, it is okay. Amanda will resend them when the DKC award is coming around.
Click here to read about the petition on South Hadley School: Stop Bullying Our Kids at Lunch. You can also sign the petition there.
Click here to read about the petition on Save Great Teachers. You can also sign the petition there.
After signing the petition (and keeping the actual petition which is attached to this email), fill out this form so that we know who signed which forms. Not only is this an easy way for you to get points but it also allows you to voice your opinions.

Whew! That was a long email. I hope you had read it all because at meetings, I plan to shorten the announcements so that we can do more during meetings.

See you at the next meeting (or have fun at Wrap it Up!)
