[Bxscience Key Club] Lotsa News!

Hey ya'll!

Sorry there was no meeting last week. Even though I had an extra two hours to study, I still probably got a 2 on my APUSH. (BTW, if any of you have any questions about APUSH, you can email me at tama@bxscience.edu). Since we did not have a meeting last week, there are a bunch of things that I'm bursting to tell all of you. Im going to add almost everything into this email so that we can do something during the meeting before the other clubs get to our school for the  DIVISIONAL!! It is going to be on Thursday (yes, this Thursday), after our meeting so stayayay! It is our second to last Divisional of the school year, so stay and represent your school. Be proud that we always have the biggest turn out of the other schools :D

Despite the canceled meeting last week, I heard about a lot of projects that Key Clubbers undertook. Some made videos to promote the free rice campaign, others handed out roses on Japan Day for a jubilee project to help a Key Clubber from Staten Island Tech, and I saw many lovely cameras at the events this weekend. I also heard about the gagillion articles written and sent to Jessica, Qing, and Connie. Good job writing them and keep it up! :)So, here goes!

Upcoming events!
  1. NYCCAH this Saturday! Those of you who signed up for this event and gave me your waivers should expect an email from me, and the coordinator of the event. (You have a little assignment to do that will be super duper quick).
  2. AIDS Walk this Sunday! You can still sign up to walk. Look for a link on our lovely website (bxscikeyclub.weebly.com)
  3. Sadie Nash Leadership Project has prepared a youth-led conference themed, "Never Stop Questioning: Speak on What's Real!"All high school teens are welcome to join for interactive workshops on gender & sexuality, the school-to-prison pipeline, and women & the media. It will be held at St. Joseph's High School in Brooklyn, on Saturday, May 19th from 10am-4pm. Lunch and a light breakfast will be served. Victoria Li fowarded the information to me and she got the info from her friend at Hunter who helped organize it. Victoria said she went three years ago and it was a great experience. It is also free!! So if you have nothing to do this weekend, you should definitely go. Here is the facebook event:  http://www.facebook.com/events/217973894972488/. A flyer is attached to this email.
  4. Great Strides Walk on 6/3. Check out the form on our website. I'll be closing it Thursday night.
Other stuff!
  1. There has been a little change up in our committees and committee heads. The news will be announced at the meeting, though I know most of you already know of the changes. Heads, please keep it on the dl.
  2. There is a great summer program called the Summer Leadership Institute. The program is great because it highly encourages high school youth of any gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or location of residence. The sessions are on weekends and the application is due on May 27. Check out this event:  http://www.facebook.com/events/363700773688802/  for more information. The following links are the application in pdf format and downloaded doc format, respectively.

Victoria Li did it last summer and she enjoyed it a lot. Benjamin Fang, the president before Victoria, also participated in it and it made his summer an unforgettable experience. Based on what theyve told me and who they have introduced me to, you make a heck of a lot of great friends there.

3. Do you know a good song? List it here:

A couple of important and semi old things:
  1. Bring in the bracelets that you made last last week! Please give them to Jessica at the end of the meeting.
  2. We are still participating in the 1st Annual District New York Hunger Games : FreeRice previously named: The First Annual Division 11 Summer Solstice Interdivisional Literal FreeRice Hunger Games Battle Royale 2013. Here is the facebook event link:  http://www.facebook.com/events/365591903491114/. If you don't have a facebook, you can read the following instructions to participate  The rules are simple. Try to donate more than 75,000 grains of rice. (Our Goal as a Division Shall set at 2,000,000) This may seem like a simple task, but heed my warning, it is not. Each tribute must register and join the group here : http://freerice.com/content-group/new-york-district-division-11-key-club

For each question you answer, you donate 10 grains of rice. Daily DIVISIONAL Progress can be viewed here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtaUkGYGQNFydDFCQWZGcmJ6T3NET0xIT3R6Wmtfc3c#gid=0
  3. We will be having a Division 11 BBQ Fundraiser sometime in July, but Herman (our awesome LTG.) has asked us to fill out a survey to get a better sense of our preferences. Make sure you fill it out here!: https://docs.google.com/a/bxscience.edu/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dGFWR0tSZXBUZDhFZXd5RGxyN1dOVkE6MQ#gid=0
  4. Also, please apply for Divisional Board Positions...  Represent our club!!! Build fantastic friendships with other Key Clubbers from schools in our Division 11 as you plan fundraisers, divisionals, and take pictures of friends during interclubbing events. The deadline to apply is May 10, two days away. (Submit your letter of recommendation or sample photos to Herman's email address at HermanLi.ltg@nydkc.org shortly after you submit your application.) I was a Historian, along with Shuo from Stuyvesant Key Club. We took pictures at the Amazing Race II and shared them with Emma and the rest of the clubs in the division. I also took pictures at divisional project events and every divisional. I highly encourage the dslr owners out there to apply! It's super fun and you feel important :)
See ya soon! :)
